There are few places in the world where a five-minute walk from the centre of town can bring you to the beach…. The newly completed Esperance waterfront celebrates our glorious coastline by linking the foreshore to the CBD.
ESPERANCE SKATE PARK & YOUTH PRECINCT
The newest redevelopment along the Esperance foreshore is the Esperance Skate Park, surrounded by an expansive grassed area. Local youth groups assisted the Shire of Esperance with the overall design & functionality of the space – built to meet the needs of local youth.
JAMES STREET PRECINCT
Follow the walk & bike paths along the foreshore toward Castletown and the Tanker Jetty Precinct, and you will stumble across the James Street Precinct – a key part of the waterfront, providing direct beach access close to the town centre, as well as an “all abilities” playground for younger children / toddlers. It features picnic shelters, gas BBQs, large shaded area, seating with ocean views, landscaped lawns, beach access stairs, showers & toilet facilities. Wander the picturesque pathway to the very tip of James Street headland, or take your photo in front of the iconic Whale Tail Sculpture. Local artists: Cindy Poole & Jason Wooldridge.
TANKER JETTY PRECINCT
On the north side is a shaded, world class discovery based nature playground, designed to stimulate the senses during playtime, as well as blending in with natural environment. Enjoy a coffee, juice or foodie delight from one of the various rotating food vans, located in the centre of the headland, or make use of the provided BBQ & picnic areas. Extraordinary landscaping presents a myriad of native plants from the region whilst historical art installations tell the beautiful tale of our ever evolving beach front. Say g’day to Sammy Seal (sculpture) which has been an integral part of the Esperance foreshore area for many years. Discover and interact with Esperance’s newest public art piece, a manually revolving ‘Direction’ Sculpture at the Tanker Jetty Precinct.
Level with Brazier Street, a smaller headland offers a lower platform from which people can appreciate the stunning Bay of Isles almost at sea level. Picnic shelters & BBQs make this a perfect spot to stop & enjoy the ocean view. Historical information panels and bronze sculptural artworks bring Esperance’s pirate history to life!
TAYLOR STREET JETTY PRECINCT, ESPERANCE PORT & ESPERANCE BAY YACHT CLUB
Wander the Taylor Street Jetty precinct & admire the vessels penned up at the dock. Take a stroll along the beach in front of the Esperance Bay Yacht Club and view the giant ships loading up at the working port.
The Apex Club of Esperance operates bus site tours of the Esperance Port every Saturday at 1:30pm from the Bower Ave Port Viewing Area (off the Esplanade). Tours are free of charge & no bookings are required. Donations appreciated with all proceeds going back into the local community.
ADVENTURELAND PARK , MINIATURE RAILWAY & MINI GOLF
Located on the Esplanade, close to the town centre, and right next to Taylors Beach Bar & Café. The Adventureland Playground is perfect for the kids to run wild, or explore the pathways through tranquil gardens & feed the resident ducks. Have a hit of Mini Golf or ride the Miniature Railway (operates school holidays & weekends from October – April).
